the ancient
timeless whirlpool
tossing me
an old coca cola can
in an empty
six train car between canal
and spring
before summer and fall leads to winter

#371. more sun

August 31, 2010

pale day
in the hot sun
its the way living
people fade that bring
out the ancient forgotten
restless shades of gone new york

laying awake
with my life
ready to go

with the shades
of new york
flickering

black and white
almost
overwhelming

the traffic
and people
but all silent

as time
is terrible
and sweet

as the sharing
of words
often is

#299. earth and swan

June 20, 2010

for myself as papa
without my kids again
midfathers day laughing
with lover wife playing
tug of war with the dog
i still know the truth
of the experience heart
love and time gave us
my children and will
wait as long as i can
as you need

the pure water
sparkled less than you did
giggling at two minutes
an old soul teaching me
about the sun through the flecks
of dust on a morning
alive with gold
a tall summer tree rustling
in your waking breaths
is the moment of gift
which is all the fire
that i have of you
daughter

#1. Laying Awake

August 27, 2009

Laying awake
Early morning gentle joy snores
Resting presleep
Predream

Time travel
Everynight the good night
Remembering the ancient faces
Childhood fears turned comfort
Receiving the conciousness
Of my mother’s face
And the way she held her hands
Palm to palm
Backwards
Watching.

Laying awake
With my life
Ready to go.
