thriving in the spring
alive in a rain of icy water
cannot be held back to stop the summer swimmer
i have always feasted on my own heart to turn the lonely pain lovely
it is the space between the words
splintered door jams line the way back down unmeeting conversations
unmeeting wishes the color of sea green loud echo
information coded so decoded
that the seasons blend

anchored between the river and dark solstice
i take comfort in the bright knowledge
that the light is growing surely now
with reflections off the ripples
catching the city of spring
pivoting returning hope
from day to night
now back again
towards day

#509. winter morning

December 20, 2011

i told you that i needed a poem
from underneath your skin
and dreamt of winter sparrows
in the palms of your hands
your glow piercing my amygdala
you undo all your buttons
illuminating the clear moment
i awake to spring answers

#503. river solstice

solstice
offers up december
to the coming beauty
the coming truth of winter
is here and spring is coming
the water is still flowing under
wind ridged river ice fish are still
growing

#499. east river

still water
now december
the leaves having fallen
begin their journey back to energy
can see it reflected in the excited
calm of my friends’ eyes
the river flows
to spring

#487. splashes

November 27, 2011

rivers
are not always
the color of water
and leaves sometimes lead
downstream
over
round stones and sharp
rocks flowing over this dream
bridge sweet black and grey
splashes
colder
seasons than this
autumn waiting snow
drifts ice thickening deep
muffles the rivers sweet
singing

Still the cherry tree in the spring is so beautiful with its tiny pale pink not quite white petals, undersized compared to the maples and oaks who share the front yard and who steal all its light as spring fades forwards towards summer the blossoms fall silently to cover the bare spot in the lawn caused by the cherry tree blocking the light of the pittsburgh sun.

Still the cherry tree in the late spring with its blossoms falling silently to cover the bare spot in its shade and as spring fades forwards towards summer the blossoms fall silently to cover the bare spot in the lawn caused by the cherry tree blocking the light of the pittsburgh sun.

Still the cherry tree gives three small boys cooling cover for their summer games of matchbox cars and teasing the girls with muddy feet and the front lawn is surrounded by a thick and evil bed of green ivy thriving on the skins and bones of the gazillion balls we lost while playing with brothers and friends.

Still the cherry tree in the fall lifts upright branches guarding the sons from the chilling father wind and the front lawn is surrounded by a thick and evil bed of green ivy thriving on the skins and bones of the gazillion balls we lost while playing with brothers and friends.

Still the cherry tree keeps watch on me as the winter snow falls to cover the bare spot in its cold shade and I freeze to avoid the dark wrath of the eyes of the chilling father wind that waits within my house.

Still the cherry tree keeps watch on me as the snow falls to cover the bare spot in its cold shade as I freeze to avoid the dark wrath that waits within my house still the cherry tree still the cherry tree keeps watch on me keeps watch on me keeps watch keeps watch.

#459. yahrzeit again

February 15, 2011

the sea remembers tomorrow
as if it were just yesterday
sleep is on its way dreams
of waking to gentle eyes
closing upon open earth
stone that finds ashes
to ashes lost breath
mother to blossom
growing me living
tree remembers
an ocean today
not forgetting
your death
or its life
grown

#452. longest night

January 5, 2011

into present solstice
being the frozen moment
capturing quiet winter time
snowing going silently forward
passing spring time understanding
that under today’s fall summer sleeps
