#473. sailing home

May 29, 2011

battens
make hardware list
water on fire
teak oil
fun skies
practice heaving to
knots knots knots
telltales
crooked
broken dock pipes
needs six cleats
brother
walrus
needs to light
sailing home together

#348. the cutter eagle

August 8, 2010

i built a ship
a childhood
balsa and pine
on my small hands
the hands of my dad
large and sure
we worked so hard
to build and paint
the cutter eagle
running home
after school to sand
the hull smooth
and dream

complete
i gave it to my dad’s
father when he admired it

years later
it returned to me
after deaths
it was covered
in dust and cobwebs
rigged it

as my years passed
it grew tattered and
broken and thrown away
with one of my failed lives

but my ship still lives
rotting on in a landfill in jersey
and here within my double planked
mind making its way across the endless
sea

#114. wrackers

December 17, 2009

wrackers

i have great difficulty
in finding my footing
while trying to swim
across the sea

you sail a ship
into the reefs instead
of paying attention
to the beams
of the lighthouse

we meet where
foam defines tragedy

#100. to live

December 3, 2009

to live in the blind
design
to die
on a bridge in time.
so,
send my final effects with magellan around capes horn and hope.
toss all my lover’s final pain on that ship
and if it sinks?
the moments remain.
