it’s quiet in the noisy market
as purple kholrabi scream
hot malaysian cashews
chatter with the old
tiny women over
locally grown
sour cherries
volunteers groan
and shave ice blocks
out the highway moaning
with the muffled shade made
in the noise of the quiet market

Still the cherry tree in the spring is so beautiful with its tiny pale pink not quite white petals, undersized compared to the maples and oaks who share the front yard and who steal all its light as spring fades forwards towards summer the blossoms fall silently to cover the bare spot in the lawn caused by the cherry tree blocking the light of the pittsburgh sun.

Still the cherry tree in the late spring with its blossoms falling silently to cover the bare spot in its shade and as spring fades forwards towards summer the blossoms fall silently to cover the bare spot in the lawn caused by the cherry tree blocking the light of the pittsburgh sun.

Still the cherry tree gives three small boys cooling cover for their summer games of matchbox cars and teasing the girls with muddy feet and the front lawn is surrounded by a thick and evil bed of green ivy thriving on the skins and bones of the gazillion balls we lost while playing with brothers and friends.

Still the cherry tree in the fall lifts upright branches guarding the sons from the chilling father wind and the front lawn is surrounded by a thick and evil bed of green ivy thriving on the skins and bones of the gazillion balls we lost while playing with brothers and friends.

Still the cherry tree keeps watch on me as the winter snow falls to cover the bare spot in its cold shade and I freeze to avoid the dark wrath of the eyes of the chilling father wind that waits within my house.

Still the cherry tree keeps watch on me as the snow falls to cover the bare spot in its cold shade as I freeze to avoid the dark wrath that waits within my house still the cherry tree still the cherry tree keeps watch on me keeps watch on me keeps watch keeps watch.

#449. blizzard steps

December 27, 2010

the snowy
tracks ghost
steps so lightly
over silver moon
shadows that echos
resound between tenses
of lives living lived to live
under the arbitrary pressure
in the endless new year coming

i cannot help counting the flakes
looking for duplicate crystals

#394. home you know

September 27, 2010

the grey rivers
mist and concrete
steel slate windows wind
sheets of driven rain competing
with the black thunderheads above
dull glass towers filled with my millions
of neighbors and their many colored dreams
burning their various meanings into entire lives

the ancient
timeless whirlpool
tossing me
an old coca cola can
in an empty
six train car between canal
and spring
before summer and fall leads to winter

#371. more sun

August 31, 2010

pale day
in the hot sun
its the way living
people fade that bring
out the ancient forgotten
restless shades of gone new york

#370. loose ends

August 30, 2010

a wierd week
before labor day
quiet in manhattan
the heat is back now
and everyone wants ice
or was that ninety years ago
when the spirits and shades knew
that reality was a confidence game

#311. ghosty moment

July 2, 2010

in my lover’s eyes
it is a whole saturday of the senses
summer light shines off the river
my small golden hound’s low barking
at the laughter of kids on skateboards
shade from the manhattan bridge
in the clatter of the f train roaring
charging to a glorious brooklyn song
the skin throb as the sun comes thru
the single cloud that gave up its ghost
all this in a moment leading to others
traveling to the moon’s silver sheen
in my lover’s eyes

#169. Wish

February 10, 2010

standing under the light
of the starfield
i understand the reason
why we only wish on one star
a night

shadow dark and shadow stark
first shadow i see makes me mark
time
