as we pass
the years strengthen
the boys we were friends
we are and now i just want
to relax on a beach or a porch laughing
at ourselves as the tide continues taking us

#361. working man

August 21, 2010

saw a young friend
grow old tonight
the spark in his eye
dimmed swagger
gone i want to weep

for who

time
is bent
turned today
on end
yesterday
he for me
now its me
crying
for my friend
we still
carry hope
in the same
young hearts
that turned
time
on end
today
is yesterday
bent

#190. memory house

March 3, 2010

reading
anger’s page again
wisdom
with a friend
a turning
of the leaves
in lives shared
which matters
in a way we never expected
at the beginning
high on a hill
building this house

i wonder where mallory is tonight

#92. A Propensity

A Propensity

It’s been no time and all time.
But,
a frail ink tears out of my pen
to rain this page
with the sere memory of you
(Swan)
and knowing that our days passed by
as the quick game of pool we’ve played
over a beer and a shot of Jack;
I’ll see you on the dust-kicked road
to Greece and a hermitage that you
would share with me.
But,
Rather than lose the wars,
they settled on the spoils of boredom.
But,
Rather than lose faith,
they twisted your spine
into a hangman’s knot to die
(and die)
in the corner by your restless jacket.
But,
It’s been no time and all time.

#55. Life’s Time

The rose stands alone
ornate
the petals fall
one
      by one
silent
where they may     (friend
in my absence.
