#448. winter solstice prep

December 19, 2010

in sensation
smoke curls
in cold whirl
oak door slam
ice spear drops
orange flames
bursts redsheen
friends all on a couch
blankets porcelain tea cups
dogs curled asleep on the floor

#380. old soul

September 9, 2010

flames
are sometimes small
a child
whose dark staring
eyes
have seen everything
before

petals fall
thorns crumble
green greys
scents fade away

sadness
is a blues note
played in the key
of missing thee

here is a hand
to hold in yours
while you take
your burning stand

ashes ashes
we all fall down

#337. flicker flame

July 28, 2010

it’s a long dark journey to nowhere
it’s a blues you choose to sing
the river’s edge will never stop you
the harbor bottom will not care

on the endless road to a whole heart
you’ll find everyone you need
so love them without lonely greed
then your soul will never break apart

#315. baby flame

July 6, 2010

baby flame
in the universe
of daughters
know thyself
as a child
of thyself
and rejoice
that you can
still weep

green shoot
growing in the diamond
sand learning healing
dancing smoke
in the wind off the sea

#262. home brewed

May 14, 2010

fire roars
sound of hot
water banging
merrily against
a round steel kettle
the rustle of tiny golden
leaves sprinkled exactly
into the strainer a bouquet
silently and sweetly awakens
the air before the whistle calls
you into the kitchen to gather cups
and cookies to pour and steep our tea
in the beautiful japanese clay and bamboo
pot

gentle evening of our universe
murmurs home

#242. hearth

April 24, 2010

in the glisten of evening
my girls return my spirit
to the life that remains
mine to share

water slaps
earth groans
metal squeals
wood creaks
flame snaps

#234. Jin Xing

April 16, 2010

pure sheen
brave shine
reflecting
light gold silver
flame from earth
and the water
collects courage
gathering bamboo
in the autumn
decline

#233. Shui Xing

April 15, 2010

stormy
river runs grey
foam blue water
wearing shores
of stone and earth
down to sand and silt
passing from fear to calm

water at the bright surface is
the same as in the dark deep
