#489. a glimpse

November 29, 2011

the day
has twisted
my thoughts into tempests
thwarted desires
lead me to the foot
of the bridge
my stone
is worn smooth
by the quiet noise
of the Endless
river

autumn
burning winter
sharpening storms
underneath rose blue
sky and clouds shining
a swift green river down
seawards colors evaporating
rushing away today from tomorrow
the plank still flecked with paint
tosses its journey in time
with the world’s
chrysalis
birth

#364. evening stroll

August 24, 2010

walking with you
cool august evening
brooklyn bridge view
your hand in mine sings

the lights of the heights
across the east river
as sharp as salt air
makes me tear up

still
surface
tension
grey
glossy
river
water
bulge
ripple
stone
tower
brooklyn
bridge
summer
heat
wave
day
peace
real
moment
truth
meaning
our
life

July 12, 2010

walking around the battery
the horn of manhattan
i am struck by the difference
in the sensations of the two bodies
of water joining in new york harbor

east river is dark and rough
smelling of decay and creosote
my eyes are caught by bridges
that connect and divide singing
in the wind as big drops splash me

hudson estuary wide and bright
scented by salt and shad
there is no impediment to my vision
the water rolls and roils past
up to the mountains and down
past the narrows to the sea

here i am caught on the land
with the wind calling me to the sea
one day i will answer and i know
you will sail with me

#317. connected

July 8, 2010

floating on the rolling waves
a massive wooden beam
bounces off the stone
tower of brooklyn
bridge sings
and spins hitting
again with a dull tone
sending shivers and ghosts
into my awareness of right now

#302. south street walk

June 23, 2010

summer leaves
crisping not
wilting
subway
air dense
as a rye bread
baking on lower
east side
stairs
lifting
up and out
bodies disperse
finding spaces
to catch
delight
zephyr
fragrant
dream floats
across the starry
river where brooklyn
she smiles
dances
cooling us
walkers at night

#301. rain delay

June 22, 2010

the ever changing east river today
slate grey slate green white topped
waves overtopping the boardwalk
while the limestone and granite
towers and span of brooklyn bridge
stands a silent watch over me
alive singing in a driving rain
as my dog waits patiently to go home

May 30, 2010

not having had
the masterclass today
i remember to notice
more dearly more
clearly the shadows
silhouettes and highlights
of sun at play on the waters
of the east river crinkling
dancing through me connected
in waves found in time
to show me a masterway
my ghosted way

#240. grey wing

April 22, 2010

past
my long
day following
the flight of a gull
from the balcony railing
wheeling past a thousand
blind windows riding the spring
wind with wings fully outstretched
quavering catching the updraft sailing
over the east river beyond the high towers
of the brooklyn bridge out of sight i feel again
