beautiful oil gulf
cradle of oil so much life oil
the dolphins oil jump
whales breach oil and sing oil
and the oil reeds sway oil
birds oil sing and fly oil
oil fisherman pulls his oil nets
oil in the sun oil children
splash oil in the shallows oil
oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil
oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil
oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil oil

vast sun drenched reaches
of oil soaked sea
filled with tightening death
which sounds our species’ dirge.

shout microbes!
shriek reeds!
scream humans!
stink corpses!

do you feel the pain?
a disturbance in the force?
will it wake us up?

distance
is a close thing
intimate and wild
calmly alone
the osprey
soars
dives
eats

your hand scraped
shark teeth out of the sand
glistening in the sun

memory gone from delight
to sadness
and anger

#275. BP

british petroleum
has brought us death
as have other violators
of the earth

but i drive a car
and havnt given up
any real part
of my user lifestyle

so i ask myself
am i a selfish bastard
or will i change
thru thoughtful grateful sacrifice

we all need to ask
and act or accept
being killers and ultimately
suicides

dragonflies
shrimp dolphins
and brown pelicans
dont get our choice
